Three diamond medallions command the field. Follow their serrated outlines and smaller figures come to life: little birds appear along the russet bands, flowering sprigs fill the ivory spaces, and rosettes wind through the richly patterned border. The birds are a particular pleasure to discover. They bring a sense of movement to a design built on strong, deliberate geometry.

The Bakhtiari carpet tradition takes its name from southwestern Iran, where village and pastoral weavers have long contributed to its varied designs. Hand-knotted in Iran with a pure wool pile, this vintage Persian Bakhtiari rug brings birds, flowers and monumental medallions together in a palette of softened reds, earthy browns and deep blue.
