An ivory field becomes a miniature world in this vintage Persian Afshar rug. Ducks, other birds and small animals appear among angular blossoms, leafy stems and scattered diamonds. Touches of ochre, olive, pink and blue distinguish the little figures, giving the eye something different to follow through the design.

Two deep navy stepped medallions and a smaller rust-red centre give this lively gathering its structure. Knotted by hand in pure wool pile, the rug has the intimacy of a small artwork—one whose creatures and flowers invite you to linger.
