One-of-a-kind hand-knotted piece

No two are alike - each rug carries its own pattern, colour balance and handmade character

This Afghan Turkoman Hand-Knotted Wool Runner Rug has a longer, more formal presence, with large repeated gul-style medallions running down the centre like markers along a woven pathway. The deep red field gives the runner warmth and strength, while the darker charcoal and burgundy border creates a steady frame along its narrow length. In Turkoman weaving traditions, repeated motifs are part of a visual language built through memory, identity and hand skill, with each form created slowly into the wool pile through knot-by-knot construction. Hand knotted in Afghanistan with a pure wool pile, this runner brings heritage, movement and structure to a hallway, entrance, bedside or long passage in a New Zealand home.

Care & Maintenance

  • Hand-knotted wool rugs are made to last with the right care. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting, rotate the rug occasionally for even wear, and blot any marks promptly with a clean cloth rather than rubbing.
  • For deeper cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended to help protect the wool fibres, natural dyes and handmade structure of the rug.

Note

  • Each rug is professionally photographed to represent its colours as accurately as possible, while natural light, pile direction and digital display settings may create subtle variations in tone.
  • Each hand-knotted rug is coloured using 100% vegetable dyes, giving the fibres natural depth, gentle tonal movement and the individual character of handmade weaving.
  • Over time, vegetable-dyed handmade rugs may gently soften in tone, adding to the natural ageing and textile character that makes each piece unique.
