Eight dark guls hold the centre in two deliberate columns. Around them, the vivid red field gives way to narrow bands crowded with diamonds, stepped figures and tiny repeated marks. The border is richly worked, while the large forms give the design striking clarity.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan with a pure wool pile, this Afghan Turkoman rug gives its bold geometry a substantial, tactile presence. Red runs through field and border, the dark motifs add depth, and the white fringe finishes the composition with a crisp edge of contrast.
