This Afghan Sultani rug feels like a garden translated into wool. A yellow-gold floral medallion anchors its softly striated grey-green field, surrounded by mirror-balanced floral, geometric and small pictorial motifs. Pale blue, olive green, burgundy, rust, ochre and ivory bring finely placed colour through the composition, while layered borders gather the detail into a calm frame.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan from pure wool, the rug balances intricate drawing with generous spacing. Its restrained ground keeps the individual forms distinct, giving the composition a quietly collected character from centre to edge.
