One-of-a-kind hand-knotted piece

No two are alike - each rug carries its own pattern, colour balance and handmade character

Some rugs reveal themselves immediately; this Afghan Karghai rug rewards a slower reading. A stepped medallion layered in ivory, ochre and deep blue anchors the red field. Beyond it, mirrored stylised animals emerge among angular branches and small flowers against golden-ochre corner grounds. A broad ivory border, patterned with burgundy diamonds and rosettes, brings their movement into an elegant frame.

Hand-knotted in Afghanistan with a pure wool pile, the rug balances exuberance with exacting symmetry. The figures give the composition its life; the careful ordering of the medallion and border gives it poise.
