Afghan Gabbeh Hand-Knotted Wool Rug - 234 x 142 cm
Afghan Gabbeh Hand-Knotted Wool Rug - 234 x 142 cm
One-of-a-kind hand-knotted piece
No two are alike - each rug carries its own pattern, colour balance and handmade character
The border gives this Afghan Gabbeh its voice. Against a softly striated field of ivory, beige, rust and muted blue, a deep navy frame unfolds in repeated stylised forms, edged by small floral guard bands and finished with pale fringe. Its bold rhythm brings crisp definition to the finely broken colour of the centre.
Hand-knotted in Afghanistan with a pure wool pile, the rug bears a woven maker’s mark reading “Qandeel” (قندیل) within a small cartouche at one end. Worked directly into the border, the mark becomes part of the composition and gives the piece a distinctive workshop identity.

Care & Maintenance
- Hand-knotted wool rugs are made to last with the right care. Vacuum gently using a suction-only setting, rotate the rug occasionally for even wear, and blot any marks promptly with a clean cloth rather than rubbing.
- For deeper cleaning, professional rug cleaning is recommended to help protect the wool fibres, natural dyes and hand-knotted structure of the rug.
Note
- Each rug is professionally photographed to represent its colours as accurately as possible, while natural light, pile direction and digital display settings may create subtle variations in tone.
- Where additional colour is required, the wool in our hand-knotted rugs is coloured exclusively with vegetable dyes, complementing the fibre’s natural tonal variation and the individual character of the weave.
- Over time, vegetable-dyed handmade rugs may gently soften in tone, adding to the natural ageing and textile character that makes each piece unique.
